LED Management On Eminem’s Summer Tour

Calif.-based Background Images provides all video displays and camera systems for Eminem’s Anger Management 3 Tour, and the rap-heavy roster–50 Cent, Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz, G-Unit, D12, Obie Trice and Eminem’s newest protégé, Stat Quo–is backed on stage by Barco LEDs.

A total of 150 Barco D7 tiles were used to create the displays for 50 Cent’s stage design, which includes scenes from a distraught New York City with a re-imagined Statue of Liberty, graffiti, and a subway ride. The thought-provoking content helped establish the hard-edge show laced with gunfire effects.

Headliner Eminem performs on a three-story stage complete with five columns of LED and a center content screen. This display is made up of 250 Barco D7 tiles. The columns and center screen are configured to allow for a full image across the entire display or for the center screen to be separate from the columns.

"We’ve really designed the system right," says Derek Burt, senior engineer at Background Images and also crew chief on the tour. "The production gave us the requirements, and we literally started the design of the system with a blank page. Everything we have put together is based on the demands of a fast paced, hard working tour…. Loads of flexibility and very rugged."

The 20-date, five-and-a-half-week tour kicked off on July 7 in Noblesville, Indiana, and will wrap up at Comerica Park in Detroit, Eminem’s hometown.
