Apocalyptic Projections for Bastille's Still Avoiding Tomorrow Tour

British band Bastille toured Still Avoiding Tomorrow through Europe from January 27 to March 10, with show design by Rob Sinclair. The set included songs from the upcoming album Doom Days and their latest mixtape, Other People's Heartache (Pt. 4).

To up the ante on this post-Brexit apocalyptic party, Sinclair brought in dynamic visual projection. Sinclair and production manager Chris Speirs called on Really Creative Media (RCM) to provide projection equipment and support for the tour. RCM supplied four Panasonic RZ31K laser projectors, Catalyst media servers, and two MA Lighting grandMA2 Light consoles.

The concert stage design included three metallic tears on the wall, made with multiple layers of crinkly, metallic mesh. Before the start of the tour, RCM created in-house test projections onto the metal mesh surfaces to see how they reacted to the colors. Video content was edited and programmed beforehand, and Dominic Baker, RCM’s head of video for the tour, adapted content on the road. Alex Passmore and Nikita Jakovlev delivered the video programming.

“It’s been a total pleasure working with the team at Really Creative Media on the Still Avoiding Tomorrow Tour," says Speirs. “Dominic Baker has been a fantastic addition to the touring team, bringing with him a wealth of technical expertise and a genuine can do attitude.”
