31 Days of Plots: The Voice, Season 17

To celebrate the achievements of 2019 and to welcome all the prospects of 2020, Live Design is conducting 31 Days Of Plots. Every day during the month of December 2019, we will highlight a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, and more.

Lighting designer Oscar Dominguez, who just won a 2019 KOI-USA Award for Season 16 of The Voice, shares the timely lighting plots of the show's 17th season. The live for broadcast show features dozens of acts, each with their own look and personality, making flexibility critical.

Of his time on The Voice, Dominguez says, “Sixteen seasons is a lot of anything. Finding inspiration and solutions for a show with a wide variety of textures and moods can be a daunting challenge. Some seasons have fared better than others, but all iterations of the show have led me towards becoming a better designer. It is an honor to be given such a broad canvas to create my art and at the end of the day, what I hope to embody is that gratitude and funnel it into serving the work.”
