31 Days of Plots: Michael Bublé's NBC Special, bublé!

To celebrate the achievements of 2019 and to welcome all the prospects of 2020, Live Design is conducting 31 Days Of Plots. Every day during the month of December 2019, we will highlight a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, and more.

Star lighting designer Bob Barnhart of 22 Degrees in Los Angeles teamed up with multi-Grammy Award-winning musical star Michael Bublé to light the singer's seventh NBC special, bublé!, which aired on March 20, 2019. "This was a unique music TV special in the sense that it was shot with only four cameras in a 'single camera' setting. Michael performed in five different locations throughout the sound stage at Universal Studios. This type of approach requires most of your key light to be done with stand lights, to get the precise angles that are discovered during the camera set-up for each shot," says Barnhart, whose gear list included 52 PRG Best Boy HP, two PRG Best Boy Ground Control, 31 Claypaky Mythos, four GLP Impression X4 BAR 20, two 2kW Fresnels, 40 Chroma-Q Colorforce II, and one PRG V676 console.
