To celebrate the achievements of 2018 and to welcome all the prospects of 2019, Live Design is conducting 31 Days Of Plots. Every day during the month of December 2018, we will highlight a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, and more.
When Jeremy Lechterman and Jackson Gallagher, the creative team behind FragmentNine, were first approached by Keith Urban’s manager, Gary Borman, about designing a tour in 2016 for the artist’s ninth studio album, Ripcord, the timing just wasn’t right. Borman had seen the designing duo’s work for alt-J (check out their plots!), garnering them a Knight of Illumination Award in the UK that same year. Two years later, says Lechterman, “The stars aligned for the Graffiti U album release, so we all dove in head first together.” With Lechterman taking the lead on lighting design, and Gallagher working his magic on the media side, to create the overall production design, the two also worked alongside Urban himself, the three together credited with creative direction. Read about the full design here. The lighting plots were drawn by Matt Gohring from Upstaging.
