Design Showcase East went virtual this year (see Live Design's chat with founder Steve Woods), showcasing online portfolios for students on May 9-11, as well as interviews with designers. “The event was a success," says Woods. "I was fortunate to have the partnership of our event committee, Kip Marsh at Brooklyn College, Anya Klepikov of University of Massachusetts, Claudia Stephens from Meadows School of the Arts at SMU, and Robert Perry at the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign. It was a whirlwind weekend with 650 interviews over a three day period and 6,000 visits to our online student portfolios. The event was well-received with both praise and good suggestions on how to make Design Showcase East smoother if we need to repeat in 2021.”
One of the highlights of the event was the keynote by projection and media designer Wendall K. Harrington, always a great speaker, and last year's winner of the Paky Lifetime Achievement Award at the Knight of Illumination Awards USA (KOI-USA) presented at LDI2019.
