The Illuminating Engineering Society New York (IESNY) and the Designers Lighting Forum New York(DLF-NY) announce a special solid-state lighting event, the LEDucation program, to be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 5:30pm in the McGraw-Hill Conference Center in New York City. The program will analyze LED lighting from the component (light source), the distribution (lighting fixture), and from the aesthetic (design/architectural element) perspectives. This joint program will also have a thirty-exhibitor tabletop-type product fair that will complement and enhance the noteworthy educational presentations.

LEDucation is eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEU) recognized by many organizations. This special LEDucation presentation is rated by the American Institute for Architecture (AIA) for AIA/CES Learning Units HSW-classification. Those requiring AIA credit will need to register at the door and should bring their official AIA registration number. LEDucation is eligible for self-reporting under the NCQLP LEU program, and other engineering and designer self-reporting continuing education programs.
Exhibits open at 5:30pm and the educational program starts at 6:15pm. Exhibits will close at 8:00pm. Food and light refreshments will be served. The program is free for DLF, IESNA, and AIA members, and all registered college students. A $10.00 admission fee will be charged for all others. Registration is necessary and can be done via the IESNY website, Please RSVP as space is limited and bring your government issued photo ID.
Peggy Meehan and Bob Nadel, IES-NY program co-chairs, say, “We have assembled thirty LED manufacturer or sales representatives that are the leading companies in their field. We expect that the exhibits will feature a mix of products readily available and a few items that show prototypes that will soon be released for distribution. We anticipate both commercial lighting and theatrical products will be on display at the tabletop exhibition area.”
Burt Grant and Scott Thurm, DLF-NY program co-chairs, comment, “Our panel of experts will go beyond the elementary ABC’s of LED lighting and truly add knowledge and hard-learned experience about the usage of LED lighting in buildings being constructed today or being included in specifications that are bidding now. We know that LED lighting is often viewed as both effective and futuristic—our presentation will prove that LED lighting is practical and realistic and is ready for usage right now.”
The McGraw-Hill Conference Center, 1221 Avenue of the Americas’ is located between 48th and 49th streets in Midtown, and located near the famous Rockefeller Center. Please use the 49th Street entrances. The closest subway is the MTA/NYCTransit “B”, “D”, “F”, and “V” trains at the 47-50 Street-Rockefeller Center station.
