UK’s Moving Light Co. Adds Vari-Lite To Its Stock

The Moving Light Company, the UK-based supplier of automated lighting equipment for the theatre, has added the VL2202[TM] spot luminaire and VL2402[TM] wash luminaire from Vari-Lite Europe to its hire stock (that’s rental stock to the Lighting, US folks).

Based around the same case design, familiar from Vari*Lite's VL6B[TM] luminaire, the VL2202 and VL2402 both use a 700W short arc lamp. The VL2202 spotlight offers a wide zoom range, fixed and indexing/rotating gobos wheels and an interchangeable colour wheel, while the VL2402 washlight offers CMY color mixing coupled with a highly controllable variable beam.

Both units have already been specified for the forthcoming UK tour of Miss Saigon by lighting designer David Hersey, where they will replace the VL2C[TM] spot luminaire and VL4[TM] wash luminaire used on the original London production. The Moving Light Company will be supplying Miss Saigon with 16 VL2202s and 24 VL2402s. At the same time, they will add an additional 16 VL2202s and 16 VL2402s to stock, which will become available in August.

Commenting on the addition of Vari-Lite equipment, The Moving Light Company's technical director Dave Isherwood says, "We have always attempted to offer the widest range of equipment to our customers, so that they could pick the products that best fitted the needs of their shows. We think that policy has worked well, but some designers have always sought those qualities that they've felt only Vari-Lite could provide. Now we're delighted that Vari-Lite's new for-sale policy and range of equipment means that we can offer this equipment to our customers, either on its own or as just one element in rigs containing a variety of other equipment."
