Event Safety Alliance Releases Six Month Update to Reopening Guide

On May 11, the Event Safety Alliance released The Event Safety Alliance Reopening Guide. Featuring contributions from over 300 entertainment and sports production professionals, the guide focuses on "creating reasonable and actionable policies and procedures rather than relying on cost-prohibitive technology,” explains Jim Digby, president/founder of the Event Safety Alliance.

Since its release, the Reopening Guide has been downloaded over 30,000 times, translated into several languages, and cited by industry professionals and organizations around the globe.

Six months later, the ESA has released an update that:

  • highlights what has been learned about how event professionals might safely get through this pandemic;
  • provides links to useful materials;
  • updates recommendations based on the current science and experiences of those attempting to resume live events.

"ESA was one of the first, but we were hardly the last. Since May, many other associations, unions, and industry groups have written their own guidance. Knowing what to do is now less of an issue than figuring out how to enforce the basic health and safety rules – physical distancing, face covering, and hand washing – without going broke," notes Steven A. Adelman, Vice President, Event Safety Alliance, in the introduction to the updated guide. "We eagerly look forward to returning to work and welcoming patrons back to the music, sports, art, and culture that we all love."
