Monday Musings: Jobs For The New Year

It’s a new year, a new decade, and who knows, maybe the perfect time for a new job! The Internet is a great source of hiring info, in all aspects and at all levels of the entertainment design and technology industry. Here is a quick sweep of a few things from the past week to pique your interest should you be job seeking.

Located in London, UK, this fulltime position sounds like a cool opportunity to work with Notch, the company behind a neat interactive, video content creation tool. The job of technical support lead involves technical problem-solving expertise in Windows OS and PC hardware, supporting a whole array of sensors, VR headsets, and interfaces, as well as ensuring that customers' success is enabled through such areas as training, tutorials, and documentation.

What more exciting job could there be than working hand-in-hand with Mickey Mouse and being an integral part of the artistic development process as show director for Disney Entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort. Be responsible for providing creative leadership for the development of projects, shows, special events, and conventions from inception through production, from show concept through scripts and announcements.

If you are a rigger, take a look at IWEISS as the company is looking to expand its freelance installation crew in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut). This position entails the safe demolition and installation of rigging equipment for permanent installs in keeping with OSHA and ETCP requirements.

Want to spend a few months in Maine in a historic theatre? I would, so if I were many, many years younger, and in the market for a summer stock job, I’d take a peek at the Ogunquit Playhouse job board. They are currently hiring for positions in production and administration for the 2020 season, which runs from May 15 through October 27.

Some of these job postings come from the USITT Women In Theatre Network on Facebook, a good source of job postings. In fact, if you are a student, you can start your climb up the professional ladder by volunteering at a trade show. USITT, the first week in April in Houston this year, is looking for Mainstage Volunteers.

And Live Design International (LDI) runs an exceptional technical intern program, with an opportunity to meet and network with tons of industry pros. Over the past three decades, this program has seen lots of industry leaders get their start at LDI as an intern. Contact Bill Digneit to apply as an intern for 2020, and who knows, you could be the next Ben Saltzman (CEO of ACT Lighting and a former LDI intern)!
