Covid-19: Navigating The Maze

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it may be hard to figure out where to get the help you need, or to know what kind of resources are out there. Many non-profit and governmental organizations (and others) are trying help. Here are a few useful links and events to help navigate the maze:

Wingspace, a Brooklyn NY-based organization of theatre artists, has organized “Wingspace Zoom Salon #1: Covid-19 Resources for Artists and Designers.” This zoom event is open to everyone and features a conversation with Carl Mulert, business representative of USA829, discussing Covid-19 resources for artists and designers, on Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m. EDT. Zoom Meeting ID# 659 753 324.

Opera America has created a Covid-19 Resource Hub, with a lot of useful information and more links, including one about the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act, which has been signed into law. Independent Sector has teamed with Washington Council Ernst & Young, a DC-based lobbying firm, to aid nonprofit organizations scrambling to determine how the act will apply to their organizations and how to proceed with filing for assistance.

IATSE has posted a Coronavirus Update Portal with information for its members as well as links to the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and OSHA, as well as their own CARES program and IATSE Cares.

The National Endowment For The Arts has created a list of links to provide updated information of artists and arts organizations.

PBS’ Thirteen has created a list of Resources for Artists, Freelancers, and Creatives during Covid-19 Crisis, primarily for people in New York State, while this is a more general list of resources for freelance artists.

The Federal Government at benefits.gov has published its list of resources as well, as a help center with its own links.

The maze might not be easy to navigate, so check with your local unions, non-profits, and governments for updated info as the Covid-19 crisis continues.
