The 2020 UK Olivier Awards were cancelled last April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and presented online in a digital ceremony on Sunday, October 25. A celebration of the truncated 2019 UK theatre season, once again a victim of the coronavirus, the design winners shine with their usual layer of excellence.
And the 2020 Olivier Award design winners are:
White Light Award for Best Lighting Design: Paule Constable, The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, National Theatre
Blue-I Theatre Technology Award for Best Set Design: Bob Crowley, Mary Poppins, Prince Edward Theatre
Royal Albert Hall Award for Best Sound Design: Emma Laxton, Emilia, Vaudeville Theatre
Best Costume Design: Joanna Scotcher, Emilia, Vaudeville Theatre
Emilia, a new play by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm that not only has an all-female cast and entirely female creative team, but is also brought to the West End by a team of four female co-producers...and won the Noel Coward Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play at the 2020 Olivier Awards.
