Boston MA, November 3, 2015: Steven Rosen, FIALD, President & Creative Director of Available Light, was recently honored as an inductee to the International Association of Lighting Designer’s College of Fellows. The award honors members of at least 10 years on both the individual lighting designer’s achievements and his or her larger contribution to the industry. “I cannot express the gratitude I feel having been singled out by my peers for this honor,” said Mr. Rosen, “This designation represents years of hard work by my co-workers and fellow IALD volunteers; I humbly share this moment, and my thanks, with them.”
It was Steven’s keen interest in applying theatrical lighting techniques to traditionally non-theatrical environments that led to his founding Available Light in 1992. The originality and grand scale of his designs are evident in such one-of-a-kind award-winning projects as: The Neural Climber interactive experience at The Franklin Institute, the Aramco Oil Exhibit, lighting for the spectacular 150th anniversary celebration of Horseshoe Curve, and the architectural installation of an all LED lighting system in the Rotunda of the National Archives—home of the US Constitution.
Steven’s commitment to responsible design solutions, including assuring LEED certification for a number of projects, is central to his work. In 2002, Mr. Rosen was honored with the LDI Lighting Designer of the Year; in 2003 he received the IALD Radiance Award—architectural lighting’s highest honor; and in 2011 he was given the LDI Redden Award for sustained achievement in lighting design. For many years Steven has been an active member of the IALD; currently he serves as President of the IALD Education Trust, whose mission is to develop the next generation of lighting designers.
