LAVAL, QUEBEC – (For Immediate Release) – Students who study lighting technology invariably dream of the day when they will be able to try out their own ideas in real world applications. For Érik Nowosielski-Lamoureux, this dream came true on Saturday February 9th, when he lit a performance by the world-renowned children’s choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Laval that was produced by RobinSon Productions. Helping him realize his ambition in colorfully brilliant fashion was a collection of CHAUVET Professional Rogue fixtures that were part of the Maison des Arts de Laval in-house rig.
“I was once a member of this choir, so it has a special meaning for me,” said Nowosielski-Lamoureux, who is now studying A/V technology at Cégep du Vieux Montréal, “This was a choir talent show that featured some really impressive performances, so I wanted to support it with a very cool and different lightshow. I put a lot of my own time into this project.”
Judging from the stunning looks Nowosielski-Lamoureux created, his time was well spent. Deploying the 16 Rogue R2 Wash fixtures and 7 Rogue R2 Spot units in his rig to great effect, he created a seemingly endless variety of looks that highlighted the performances of the choir as well as the individual members who sang solos or in smaller groups.
Most of the Rogue R2 Wash fixtures were hung on four truss structures, four per unit, while the remaining four were arranged on the upstage deck. Nowosielski-Lamoureux hung three Rogue R2 Spots on upstage truss, hung two on mid-stage truss and positioned two on upstage road cases. From these positions, he was able to direct light on the stage from multiple directions while creating backlighting, downlight and a variety of wash effects.
“The Rogue Spots and Washes were nice because they gave me the possibility to do a lot of different positions and to point out some places on the stage,” he said. “Having 23 movers in my rig made things fun, because I could pretty much create any look I imagined to support the performers. I especially liked the wide zoom range of the R2 Washes because I could almost use them as beam fixtures at times. As far as the R2 Spots go, they gave me great gobo choices – and I really liked that they have an iris.”
Looking back on his experience, Nowosielski-Lamoureux expressed a sense of satisfaction in seeing his lighting design transition from a concept on software to an engaging show on stage. “It was really something special to see how 50 hours of planning and programming came to life in front of my eyes and everything went as planned,” he said. “The lightshow was just as I envisioned it would be.”
Based on the results of this effort, it’s safe to assume that this aspiring young designer’s ideas will be coming to life for many years to come.
