City Theatrical To Launch Multiverse Wireless DMX System at LDI 2018

City Theatrical is launching its new Multiverse® wireless DMX system at Booth 2815 of the Live Design International (LDI) Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada from Friday, October 19, 2018 to Sunday, October 21, 2018. The Multiverse system can broadcast as many as 10 universes of DMX data from a single transmitter, while producing less radio energy than present-day single universe systems. The launch will include the introduction of Multiverse® SHoW Baby™, City Theatrical’s fourth generation of the original plug and play wireless DMX transceiver system, and feature the Multiverse Module, Multiverse Node, Multiverse Transmitter, and Multiverse Gateway products. Multiverse technology discussions and live demonstrations will be offered within the booth every half hour throughout trade show hours.

Multiverse marks the fifth generation of City Theatrical's engineering development for wireless DMX technology. The Multiverse system can deliver more data while reducing the amount of radio energy required for wireless DMX by more than 90%, enabling scalability never possible before. Every product in the Multiverse system is built around a tiny radio, the Multiverse Module, which can carry up to five universes of data, depending on the frequency used. Due to their low cost, increased data transport, and ease of design integration, the Multiverse Module marks the first time that the implementation of a wireless DMX chip in every DMX device is possible.

Multiverse's patent-pending technology is based on several breakthrough innovations in wireless DMX. Multiverse Transmitter and Multiverse Gateway products use Dual Band Operation to simultaneously broadcast on different bands (2.4GHz and 900MHz in the Americas), to either spread their radio signals across these two bands or to avoid the overcrowded frequencies. Multiverse utilizes a patent pending method called MDMX to radically reduce the data transmission requirements for a show, in many cases by over 90%, while still allowing perfect fidelity in a mission critical show environment. Multiverse also uses a unique non-interfering RDM system, MRDM, to allow both DMX and RDM to operate at the same time, and open up new benefits for lighting users not available from a wired system.

The Multiverse system also features Auto Dynamic Limited Burst to automatically save unneeded radio energy by designating only the DMX slots needed to broadcast, as opposed to broadcasting on all 512 DMX slots per universe, whether or not there is anything patched into them. Multiverse’s SHoW Key system allows any Multiverse system to be password protected to lock out any other systems operating in the area, or to prevent any accidental or malicious activity. Multiverse offers Forward Error Correction to detect and heal errors in data transmission in crowded communication channels. All Multiverse products contain SHoW DMX Neo® SHoW IDs, allowing Multiverse products to speak with any existing SHoW DMX SHoW Baby®, or SHoW DMX Neo product in Neo mode.

The Multiverse SHoW Baby is the fourth generation of the original plug and play wireless DMX transceiver system by City Theatrical. With tens of thousands of units sold since their introduction in 2011, SHoW Baby plug and play transceivers set the standard for ease of use and reliability at an affordable price point. The addition of Multiverse radio technology enhances the performance even more, as a wireless DMX transceiver that delivers breakthrough plug and play wireless DMX and RDM transmission. In its default mode, Multiverse SHoW Baby works like all other SHoW Baby Transceivers with six user selectable SHoW DMX Neo SHoW IDs. By connecting an RDM controller, like DMXcat® Multi Function Test Tool, all of the revolutionary new 2.4GHz Multiverse SHoW IDs are accessible as well as all 70 SHoW DMX Neo SHoW IDs. Users can add to their existing SHoW DMX SHoW Baby® systems, build new single universe Multiverse systems, or use Multiverse SHoW Baby as a receiver on multiple universe systems with a Multiverse Transmitter

The Multiverse Node offers single universe plug and play simplicity as a transceiver. As a single universe transmitter, it functions in a similar plug and play manner to our SHoW DMX SHoW Baby but contains two radios and a full user interface, with four buttons and a backlit LED display. As a receiver, the Multiverse Node is the primary single universe standalone receiver in the Multiverse system and can be part of a larger multi-universe setup.

The Multiverse Transmitter delivers multiple universe control that opens a new world in wireless DMX/RDM. Its Ethernet input allows it to take in Streaming ACN (sACN) or Art-Net and to transmit between eight and 10 user-selectable universes of DMX/RDM, depending on the type of Multiverse Transmitter product used, with the ability to use less radio energy than a present-day single universe wireless DMX transmitter. The Multiverse Transmitter also has a Bluetooth radio receiver built in that allows it to communicate with the DMXcat app from the user’s smartphone. This gives the user smartphone control of any lighting fixture that is part of the Multiverse setup, whether it is a lighting fixture with a Multiverse Module inside, a lighting fixture receiving its data from a Multiverse Node, or any wired fixture downstream of those devices.

The Multiverse Gateway is a transceiver that works with up to eight wired plus 10 wireless universes of wireless DMX data, providing the fullest use of the Multiverse system. Like the Multiverse Transmitter, the Multiverse Gateway utilizes four radios (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for inputs, 900MHz and 2.4GHz for wireless DMX/RDM output) and accepts Streaming ACN or Art-Net input. The user can choose which of the between eight and 10 universes they would like to broadcast wirelessly, depending on the type of Multiverse Gateway product used, and can choose another eight universes to output locally as wired DMX/RDM. Receivers on the Multiverse Gateway system can either be individual Multiverse Nodes for single wired DMX/RDM output, or additional Multiverse Gateways. When used as receivers, the Multiverse Gateway can output any of the wireless DMX universes received on any of the eight wired DMX outputs, as well as passing along up to 10 universes on the Streaming ACN or Art-Net output.

Both the Multiverse Gateway and Multiverse Transmitter products are Wi-Fi enabled, allowing for communication and control from tablet-based Wi-Fi lighting controllers like Luminair.
