Bold Use of wysiwyg at Polsat SuperHit Festiwal Creates Pure Eye-Candy

Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26 was the hottest weekend in May. Polsat SuperHit Festiwal offered three full days of programming of greatly talented, popular musicians and hilarious cabaret performances. POLSAT Television showcased the best entertainment straight from the legendary Forest Opera, a TV Spectacular that garnered upwards of four million viewers.

For the first time in history, Polsat SuperHit Festiwal aired in the morning. Each day, at 9:00 am, POLSAT Television was live, straight from the beach in Sopot. Hosts, Joanna Koroniewska and Maciej Dowbor, interviewed the artists and took viewers behind the scenes of the Forest Opera to see the stars at rehearsals.

Polsat SuperHit Festiwal consists of three concerts: Platinum Concert, Radio Hit of the Year, and the Kabareton 2019.

This massive project is to meet three conditions:

  1. Look good in daylight
  2. Have the appearance of a modern festival scene
  3. Be able to build atmospheric scenes

Artur Szyman is the set designer for Polsat SuperHit Festiwal tasked with making magic for the entire three days. With two decades under his belt as a lighting designer, and experience as a former cameraman and Director of Photography, Artur has now been designing sets for years. Artur has been working with Polsat SuperHit Festiwal for more than 12 years, starting as a lighting designer, and now he makes set dreams come true.

Artur’s initial idea for the design was to create a large-space project that included organic elements combined with LED technology and lighting. Like any project of this magnitude, Artur has the support and trust of a great team, a tight-knit group of talented workers that have worked together for many years on various projects.

From idea to reality

“In the case of such large projects, with the vast stage elements and techniques, many factors must be considered. The model of the amphitheater, the complex forms of chandeliers, screens, rigging and lighting elements make the project very broad. These elements are important to remember in the case of pre-programming.” – Artur Szyman

To bring the initial idea to reality, all these complex elements of the stage design, lighting and video, came together in a familiar design process using wysiwyg.  In fact, the entire project for Polsat Superhit Festiwal, like so many of Artur’s projects over the years, was created using wysiwyg. Artur has been an enthusiastic wysiwyg user since R14, so he knows his way around the program like the back of his hand. And with each project, the crowning achievement is when the Shaded View rendering is done.

“This is the most pleasant part of the job. It’s where I feel like an Artist, where my capabilities and creativity are unlimited. Almost all my productions are pre-programmed using wysiwyg. I always use wysiwyg, I cannot wait for the next show!” – Artur Szyman

Colours

The strong colors work beautifully during daylight, even when lights aren’t as evident. Artur doesn’t hold back; his style is bold. The stage, videos and lighting use colors aggressively. That’s hard to do well. There is so much that can go wrong, and yet, Artur's final design is so balanced, it amounts to pure eye-candy. What an impressive, vibrant stage design that worked well throughout all hours of the festival.

Polsat Superhit Festiwal is here to stay. Each new year, Artur and his team keep pushing boundaries and creating possibilities that surpass prior years. Making magic happen, on screen and off, it’s always interesting to hear the details of what it takes to pull off such a big project.

One look at the videos and photos of this year’s three-day concert are testimony enough that, with the right creative mind behind it, wysiwyg is the best go-to software. It’s reliable, flexible and versatile. Exactly what Artur, and you, need to keep your imagination running wild and audiences in awe, repeatedly.
