Bennetts Associates with Sound Space Vision appointed to Hertford Theatre expansion project

Sound Space Vision (SSV) is a core part of the design team for the £13.5m expansion of the Hertford Theatre as announced by the East Herts Council yesterday.

Renowned architecture practice Bennetts Associates was appointed by the council after a tender process that attracted bids from across Europe. In addition to SSV, other consultants working on the scheme include cost consultant Bristow Johnson, structural engineer Integral, and services and environmental consultant Max Fordham.

As Theatre Planning and Acoustics consultants, Sound Space Vision will be integral to the Hertford Theatre project, which will see the theatre add three cinema screens, a 150-seat studio and more seats in the existing 400-seat auditorium. It will also add a riverside bar and improve access to all areas.

SSV Director, Anne Minors, says, “We’re very pleased to be working with the team from East Herts and Bennetts Associates on such a significant project and well located site. We look forward to continuing our hands on approach as we consult with all the user groups and develop the theatre, studio and cinema with the Theatre.”

Sound Space Vision has an international reputation for excellence in both theatre design and acoustics and has worked on opera houses, theatres, and concert halls around the world including London’s Royal Opera House and Wigmore Hall, Belfast’s Lyric Theatre, Bath’s Theatre Royal and Egg Theatre, 2018 Stirling Prize runner up Storey’s Field Centre Cambridge, and 2019 RIBA National Award winner Nevill Holt Opera. SSV is currently collaborating with Bennetts Associates on the Woolwich Creative District.

The Hertford Theatre project is expected to take three years.
