The first Sound 411, a two-day informational event designed to bring together sound professionals and students in New York City with leaders in the sound hardware and software industry, was an unqualified success for organizer Stage Research, Inc. Held August 12-13 at John Jay College, the free event drew approximately 60 attendees to an array of seminars and demos by sponsors Stage Research, Lectrosonics, UK-based DiGiCo, and LimitedOutline North America, LLC.
"We were very happy with the turnout and with the enthusiastic support of the sponsors," reports Carlton Guc, cofounder of Stage Research. "We envisioned Sound 411 as an opportunity for anyone involved in sound for theatrical and touring productions or film and video to spend some quality time with audio manufacturers, and that proved to be the case. The two-day event introduced a number of new products, provided some basic and advanced hands-on training, and offered a chance to play with some pretty cool equipment."
Attendees took part in sessions on optimizing their computers for best performance and learned about new digital console technology from DiGiCo, which also supplied hands-on training for its D8 system. Stage Research introduced the Live Audio effect for its flagship SFX 6.2 software, which enables users to route live audio into the SFX playback engine, and unveiled its RF Guru application for RF microphone selection and intermod troubleshooting.
"Following Sound 411's successful launch we plan to take it on the road," says Guc. "So watch for us to announce more cities and dates in the weeks ahead. Sound 411 will remain free to sound professionals and students who pre-register to secure a place."
