LAKEWOOD THEATER CELEBRATES THE HOLIDAYS WITH WORXAUDIO TECHNOLOGIES

lakewood_hi.jpgDallas, TX – February 2010… Let's face it; the Holidays simply aren't the Holidays without three critical elements: good friends, good food, and good music. For people throughout the greater Dallas area, the Lakewood Theater delivered all of the above in spades—particularly the good music part. With a varied calendar that included everything from big band performances to an assortment of other Holiday-themed entertainment, the Lakewood Theater was the place to be this past December. To ensure the sound was at it very best, the venerable theater deployed a potent sound system consisting of TrueLine loudspeaker systems from Greensboro, NC-based WorxAudio Technologies.

Jake Salem , lead audio engineer at the Lakewood Theater, not only serves as the facility's FOH (front of house) engineer, he is also responsible for selecting and maintaining the venue's equipment as well as overseeing all technical operations. After evaluating a number of competing systems, Salem ultimately deployed twelve WorxAudio TrueLine V8T-P line array loudspeakers along with four TrueLine TL218SST-P Super Subs—the company's flagship subwoofers. Flown six V8 elements per side with two Super Subs positioned on the floor below and vertically aligned with the clusters overhead, the WorxAudio sound system addressed several issues that Salem had been wrestling with.

“The biggest challenge we face at the Lakewood Theater is that we handle so many different types of events,” Salem explained. “The room is used for everything from ballet, rock shows, and weddings to special corporate events. Because of this, we needed an extremely versatile sound system. The compact size of the WorxAudio V8's made them a terrific choice for this room and their high SPL output provided the ability to handle any type of program. Depending on the nature of the event, we could easily raise the trim height of the flown clusters so that they wouldn't be visible.”

Salem reports that Ricki Derek and his Big Band performed during December, as did Local Honey (a group of prominent local musicians who have formed a big band). “In each case,” said Salem, “the WorxAudio system was terrific. Ricki Derek beefed up his ensemble for his appearance at the Lakewood Theater by adding a 10-piece string section and a 10-piece horn section. For both acts, the WorxAudio system couldn't have been better. The sound was extremely musical and coverage was consistent throughout the entire space. Further, the room loads at around 60 Hz, so we needed a subwoofer with an extremely low frequency response to prevent the bass from getting ‘muddy' under the balcony. The Super Subs are in a league of their own—just unbelievably good.”

So how did Salem arrive at the decision to deploy a system form WorxAudio Technologies? In a nutshell: customer service. “WorxAudio's customer and technical support services are the best I've encountered,” Salem notes. “Being a small company, they're very responsive and they make it easy to get the information you require. Hugh Sarvis (the company's CEO and Director of Engineering) not only helped us select the equipment most appropriate for our requirements, he was always ready to answer our questions. That level of customer care is rare these days.”

With the Holidays now past, Salem reflected on the WorxAudio TrueLine sound reinforcement system's performance. “It was really great,” he said. “The TrueLine system is so musical; it works really well with a wide variety of acts. This sound system made every show that much more enjoyable. The system provided even coverage throughout the room and delivered a very natural, pleasing sound. We had numerous people come up and tell us the sound was fantastic. When you hear comments like that from your customers, you know you've made the right choice.”
