Leading UK lighting rental company HSL has invested heavily in the last 3 months in new lighting equipment to facilitate its continuing busy work schedule amidst what's so far been a bumper year for the Blackburn-based operation.

Over 60 Vari*Lite VL3000 and VL3500 Series moving light fixtures have been added to HSL's existing Vari*Lite inventory. The first job for these was as a dry hire to Gearhouse South Africa, boosting the numbers of Vari*Lites used on the spectacular Closing Ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg - for which Gearhouse supplied full technical production.

HSL has also purchased 20 of the new Avolites Power Cubes. This first batch will replace all HSL's small dimming systems, and their first shows will be for various C Venues spaces and theatres at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. C Venues offers the largest and most varied theatre and new writing programme of the month long event.

HSL`s technical Manager, Ryan Hopkins says, “The Power Cube is a very versatile piece of kit offering a mains and data solution in one expediently sized box – with the choice of dimming channels and hot power outlets in several different configurations, it is absolutely ideal for theatre shows, corporate events and small tours.

These additional Avolites dimmers I'm sure will prove to be equally as reliable and robust as the rest of the Avolites range we stock, this in turn reduces the quantity of spare parts we currently hold in stock. In addition Avolites support is fantastic and in the unlikely event we require parts, they make the whole process quick and simple. Evaluating all the small dimmers we felt the Power Cube was definitely the way to go, strengthening the great working relationship we share with all at Avo.”

HSL has also added 160 new Robe ROBIN 300 series units incorporating, Wash, Spots and Beams, plus 40 of the new 700 Beam Series and 24 of the 2500 Beam fixtures to its already substantial stock of Robe products that now totals over 2000 moving lights. The new units went to immediate use on numerous theatre, corporate and touring shows. They impressed both designers and technicians, who commented on the size, output and functionality of the ROBINs and the massive output of the 700 and 2500 Beam range.

Around 400 flight cases have been delivered from 5 Star Cases in the last month to house the various elements of new equipment.

HSL's investment programme in new technology will continue over the next 3 months to meet its busy last quarter schedule, which is already showing a healthy growth across concert touring, theatre and TV production and installation sectors.
