High Resolution Systems LLC has introduced four size options and four different price levels for its Universal Device Controller (UDC), a software-based control platform that allows simple, cost-effective control of devices using IP (TCP/UDP) or serial (232/422/485) protocols. The options fit any budget and application and offer a scaleable path to the full-featured UDC.
“The options enable us to better serve customer needs in applications where all of the powerful features of the full UDC are not required,” notes Drew Taylor. “The four levels of software are all the same UDC application and are completely scaleable. As a customer upgrades, more features are unlocked until all of them are available in the full- version UDC. A customer can upgrade their version any time without reinstalling it. They just keep their current configuration settings and add to them.”
The entry-level solution is UDC:ONE, which allows for control of any one device and can be used with any touchscreen PC. It comes with a 21-button panel (which can be extended for remote use) and provides unlimited device library (IP Serial, Telnet, contact closure) with a single active device at any one time, depending on configuration. Full XY control of any IP or serial router is also offered without the need for proprietary router panels. Custom command sets can be created for device communication or the customer can use UDC's existing library of devices and command sets.
Customers can step up to the next level, UDC:LITE, for control of up to six devices simultaneously with scripting and advanced options. This version incorporates everything from UDC:ONE and allows customers to stack multiple commands on one button to control multiple devices at once. A new grouping function highlights multiple buttons for simultaneous execution of commands on the fly.
UDC:WEB includes all the features of UDC:LITE and adds the ability to control an unlimited number of devices at the same time with one custom controller interface. The web server feature offers control from any device with a web browser, such as Apple's iPad and iPhone or any tablet PC.
The full version of the UDC software is now called UDC:PRO. It has all the features of the other three options plus an array of exclusive offerings.
With UDC:PRO customers can utilize up to six custom controller interfaces at one time or six pages of interfaces; interfaces are built with “drag and drop” ease. Listen and Learn allows incoming protocols and commands to be learned and accessed via customers' own controllers. Protocol Translation enables lighting commands to trigger broadcast and video equipment or vice versa. A looping function allows actions to be executed on ra epeat based on the timing parameters set. UDC:PRO also offers access to all future features and product updates.
In addition, UDC:PRO boasts two more remote control applications. UDC-R Remote Computer Control controls a PC remotely as part of the product's control system. It allows customers to save macros on a computer to open and control PowerPoint or Google Earth by using UDC controller software instead. Customers can also take control of a computer remotely by opening any application and entering text and common keyboard commands.
UDC-PLAY is a play-only application that communicates with the main UDC server and allows multiple access points to display the user-built interfaces of the control system.
Customers also have an option of getting UDC:PRO with UDC-400 which adds the 40-button UDC-400 panel to the package.
