Heidelberg USA incorporates PRG's S400™ at PRINT 09 trade show

New Windsor, New York—November 9, 2009—PRG's Corporate and Trade Show Services provided long time client, Heidelberg USA with a turnkey system that controlled costs without compromising design for the Print 09 trade show. The Heidelberg booth encompassed 30,000 sq. ft. at Chicago's McCormick Place during the world's largest, most comprehensive trade show for the print media industry. “Working within the restrictions of a very tight budget, PRG was able to produce lighting and audio for our booth which enhanced the visitor's perception of Heidelberg,” said Mark Wendling, Director, Marketing Communications for Heidelberg USA. “We were absolutely satisfied with their work. We have been with them of over 10 years now, so we knew that they were right for this job.”

The Heidelberg booth design included 137 automated lights. In order to help minimize labor costs and set-up time Lighting Designer Jim Terry of Keynote Lighting & Design and Production Electrician Kerry Keenan used the PRG Series 400â„¢ Power and Data Distribution System. The Series 400 reduced by half the amount of cable required and the associated labor by delivering both the power and the data in a single cable. Using three S400 racks with 208V modules and breakout boxes, the automated fixtures were hung, cabled and tested in only two and a half days with a four-person crew. Heidelberg's labor costs were reduced by over 50% from previous years.

“I loved the Series 400 system. It was rock solid,” explained Terry. “We saved at least 2-1/2 days of labor. Normally, we would have to make data looms, both a main and a backup in the shop, and then include the time to troubleshoot on site. The S400 system was plug and play. The whole system worked perfectly, right out of the box.”

Keenan particularly liked the simplicity of the installation. “I build a lot of trade show booths that are tight on space,” he noted. “Usually our cables are being run through signs and walls, so having only one cable is definitely an advantage in the trade show market. Plus having the ability to address the DMX universes right on the rack eliminates opto-splitters.”

In addition to providing the lighting, PRG supplied the audio and the plasma displays. PRG's Corporate and Trade Show Services group was pleased to help the creative team realize their design. “I love working with PRG,” concluded Terry, “because they know how to put together a crew that cares about the project; they provide gear—their proprietary gear—that not only makes the job easier but saves the client money. To me that makes the choice of working with PRG a no-brainer.”
