InfoComm, Orlando, Florida, USA, June 15, 2011 – When it was known as Tabu, The Beacham was Orlando's first South Beach-style VIP nightclub, setting the pace for the many that followed after it opened in 1999. But now The Beacham, a historic venue that has been part of Orlando's nightlife since the early 1920s, is back and better than ever. It has been restored as a live performance venue and sports a fantastic-sounding KF740 P.A. system from EAW® (Demo Room 204A), a world leader in audio system solutions for over 30 years.
The Beacham, which holds 1,250 music fans, is now paired with The Social, a smaller 300-seat club next door, and has a stereo P.A. system that features seven EAW KF740 enclosures on each side. These are supported by eight EAW SB1002 Large Format Flyable Subwoofers arrayed in a mono block below the stage, four EAW JF80z Compact Full-Range Loudspeakers as lip fills on the stage and four EAW MK5396 2-Way Full-Range Installation Loudspeakers for mezzanine and upper-balcony fills. Two EAW UX8800 Digital Signal Processors are used on the main systems and delays, while two more are used on the monitor mix. On stage, artists are immersed in sound, thanks to eight EAW MicroWedge12 (MW12) Stage Monitors, two MicroWedge15 (MW15) Stage Monitors and two MicroSub Stage Monitor Subwoofers. The system is powered with Powersoft amplifiers. The entire P.A. system was designed and installed by Heavier Than Gravity of Orlando.
“The initial thought was to go with one of the small-format line array systems that are out there now,” recalls Jeff Kenney, Owner and Designer at Heavier than Gravity. “But when you look at the kinds of music that are coming to clubs in the area – electronica, hip-hop, heavy metal – it's clear that smaller systems like that are not going to cut it – they just don't have the meat and potatoes you need to make that kind of music work.” Kenney looked around for alternatives that would fit the club's budget and when he saw the press release introducing the KF740, he knew he'd found the solution he was looking for. “In terms of size, price point and power handling, the KF740 is the only box in its class,” exclaims Kenney, who also helps keep the club running as production manager for regional promoter Insomniac Events. “I remember one of the first shows there was DJ Rusko and he told me he was ‘scared of the amount of sound in the room.' And he liked to play it on 10. It's a fantastic system and everyone who's been here, on stage or on the floor, says it's the best P.A. they've ever heard.”
The EAW KF740 line array system is optimized for the widest possible range of touring and installation applications. The symmetrical design, large horn and spaced woofers provide exceptional pattern control while EAW Focusing and EAW Resolution software further enhance system performance. High-output, yet extremely lightweight and compact, a KF740 module can integrate seamlessly into an existing KF760 or KF730 system or combine for a complete KF740 array perfect for applications of nearly any size. The KF740 delivers the premium, high output, 3-way performance that is the hallmark of the KF series in an extremely compact and easy-to-use package. Dual 62mm voice coil HF compression drivers and dual 8-in Concentric Summation Array (CSA) loaded MF transducers are integrated through a common horn that occupies the entire face of the enclosure. The astounding pattern control offered by this configuration is extended even further (down to 160 Hz) as the MF devices are transitioned to a spaced array of four 2.5-in voice coil 10-in woofers. The pair of LF devices integrated within the MF/HF horn combined with the pair of side-mounted devices provides as much as 18 dB of off-axis rejection. The EAW Focused processing delivered via the UX8800 DSP precisely transitions from one system subsection to another while maintaining nearly perfect 90-degree control.
