Daktronics on Track to Meet Unprecedented Production Schedule for Large Renovation Project

BROOKINGS, S.D. – June 8, 2011 – Daktronics automated rigging is on track to deliver their largest order to date with an unprecedented turn around time. The popular, state-of-the-art, Daktronics Pro Series console and Vortek hoists are replacing counterweight rigging systems. Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT), has dominated the digital display industry for decades, now designs and manufactures automated rigging systems for theatrical, architectural and arena applications.

Shen Milsom & Wilke, LLC, provided the project's consulting services. “In working to upgrade the rigging systems at the high schools, we established some very strict design criteria for the new rigging system which primarily focused on the safety of the students and faculty with secondary goals for value and performance,” recalled Adam Babb, PE, of the SM&W office. “As we worked with the district to establish the design parameters, we quickly narrowed down the options to a few industry leading manufacturers with long term records of safety, quality and reliability. In addition the manufacturers were selected based on their capacity to deliver a large quantity of hoists in a relatively short amount of time. Daktronics represented a good value, meeting or exceeding project design parameters for safety, budget and performance."

Babb added, “Daktronics is working hand in hand with all players involved to deliver under a tight deadline with an aggressive installation scheAssembling Vortek hoistsdule requiring 75 hoists installed in 60 days at 5 different locations. We currently are in the midst of our 60-day summer construction window and the rigging installation is on schedule.”

“We are very happy to have been given the opportunity to provide our products to these theaters. With less than eight weeks to design, manufacture and deliver five unique turn-key automated rigging systems, the challenges were very real,” said Operations Manager Dave Rossi. The internal and external coordination that was required to meet this deliverable is critical to our collective success. I am quite proud of everyone who are going the extra mile to make this happen on schedule.”

“With a renovation project, Vortek hoists' flexible mounting options are a perfect fit. Four schools required grid-mounted hoists, while the other school's hoists are the typical underhung mounts,” said Mike Hyde, Daktronics sales representative. “We're always excited to see high school students get an opportunity to experience easy-to-use yet feature-rich controls with all the advancements in modern stage rigging technology.”
