Coemar Lights Up “Divas” as Popular Show Returns to VH1

Divas"Divas" returned to VH1 after a five-year hiatus with Coemar lighting fixtures showcasing six women whose songs have brought joy, optimism and empowerment to their fans worldwide. Lighting designer Tom Kenny selected Coemar Infinity Wash XLS and Infinity ACL S moving heads, supplied by Atomic Lighting, to enhance the divas' high-wattage performances telecast live on the network September 17.

"Divas" debuted on VH1 in 1998 and aired as a concert series annually through 2004. Now the network has brought back the concept in a new format at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House. Paula Abdul hosted the live show that saluted divas Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus who performed on stage. Special guests included Cyndi Lauper, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Stevie Wonder and India Arie; an array of celebrity presenters were also on hand.

"My brief was to make the lighting as stunning and beautiful as the divas themselves and to give every song its own theatrics and personality," says Kenny. "With the strong color and beamage I got from these lights I was able to achieve some very unique looks."

Kenny utilized a complement of 90 Infinity Wash XLs as a "matrix of lights" upstage where they serve as a backdrop for the performers.

With so much more than just superior brightness to their name, Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights sport a groundbreaking new color mix system able to achieve CMY and RGB colors (CMY patent pending). There's also an effects wheel for creating texture and aerial effects with wash light (patent pending) as well as a beam shaper rotating and indexing at 360 degrees (patent pending).

He also positioned 24 Infinity ACL S units from upstage to out in the audience to give a dynamic look to the stage and theater.

The Infinity ACL S is also renowned for its superior brightness, offering more brightness than a 1200W fixture in a 250W package. Other key features include variable beam size and beam control with rotating aerial effects; moon flower effect; split color beam effects; and CMY color mixing.

The special was executive produced by Lee Rolontz, produced by Patrizia di maria and directed by the legendary Louis J Horvitz.
