"Live concerts, television show tapings, live broadcast, virtually any live event that we do, from something in a small venue to an arena-sized event, this is what we use. It really suits all facets of live production. RTS /Telex is the brand that we singularly use on ALL of it." – Bill Abner, ASL
Atlanta, GA Georgia-based Atlanta Sound and Lighting specialize in concerts, conventions, corporate presentations, political events and theatrical productions. Known for providing state-of-the-art stage productions for their customers, ASL has provided production services for the corporate A/V market and all genres of musical entertainment and has worked with many of the most successful names in the entertainment industry. John Berry, Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow, P-Diddy, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Jars of Clay, Kansas, B.B. King, Kenny Loggins, Puddle of Mud, Tantric, Trisha Yearwood and Jerry Lee Lewis are just a few of the acts for which ASL has provided sound, light and communications production over the years.
Given the company's impressive resume and 30-year history of working with high-profile clients, it comes as little surprise that the company's go-to source for intercom solutions is RTS /Telex.
RTS/Telex products are literally used on a daily basis by ASL because of their reliability and ease-of-use. Production manager/account representative, Bill Abner, explains:
“One of the recent high profile events that we used the Telex BTR-800 two-channel intercom on was the Tenth Anniversary of the Atlanta Centennial Games Ceremony in Atlanta. It was an outdoors production that was televised as well as being a live concert setting celebrating the anniversary of the Olympics. The headlining act for the night was Trisha Yearwood. The intercom was used by the director and production manager of the live portion of the show, and they loved it! And when our customer loves it, we love it! In this case we were using (4) Telex TR-800 bodypacks and (1) Telex BTR-800 two-channel base station unit. We also own the Telex BTR-300 series, which we frequently interface with a wired intercom system. We also use it quite frequently at the Atlanta Americas Mart, which is Atlanta's fashion center. They have their quarterly fashion show and trade market and we use them quite heavily for those live events. It's the perfect intercom to facilitate communication between stage managers, technicians, people in the dressing room, as well as the show director.“
Abner continues: “The Telex intercom integrates easily, which is one of the reasons we really like it. There are a lot of options on the base unit themselves that allow you to integrate with different kinds of systems, which makes it even more valuable for us because there are times when we have to integrate it with other people's systems. For live concerts, television show tapings, live broadcast, virtually any live event that we do, from something in a small venue to an arena sized event, this is what we use. It really suits all facets of live production. RTS /Telex is the brand that we singularly use on ALL of it.”
While products that offer ease-of-use and high level performance are great, a company is often judged on what happens when the customer requires support. This is where RTS /Telex really excels, in the words of Atlanta Sound and Lighting's Bill Abner:
“We haven't had a lot of contact with RTS /Telex technical support because we haven't really had any problems with their intercom. Any time that we've had to get a new piece of expendables like ear foams or something, they've come through great for us. We have a great relationship with the support staff at RTS /Telex but I don't foresee any problems with the equipment, at least not after our lengthy history with it! "
