Saturday, September 7, saw the first night of awards for the Creative Arts Emmys, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Presenters included Hannah Waddingham, Tig Notaro, and Mark Cuban, for the event which honors artistic and technical achievement in American prime time television.

One of the big winners of the first night was "Billy Joel: The 100th – Live At Madison Square Garden" which won for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special, Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special, and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork For A Special.
