Four of the theatre's top set designers—John Lee Beatty, Heidi Ettinger, David Gallo, and David Korins—will participate in a special roundtable discussion at this year's Broadway Lighting Master Classes. Titled "Lighting and the Set Designer," the four panelists will discuss what they want from lighting designers and from a lighting design, detailing what's worked for them over the years—and what hasn't.
Beatty, who received an EDDY Award in 2004 for Sustained Achievement in Set Design, is currently represented on Broadway with Doubt and the revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, as well as his work on the long-running Chicago. Ettinger designed both Good Vibrations and Dracula this season on Broadway. Gallo, a longtime collaborator of August Wilson, designed both the recent Gem of the Ocean and the upcoming Radio Golf; he also designed the recent Thoroughly Modern Millie. Korins, a rising star off Broadway who was named one of ED's Young Designers to Watch in 2003, is resident scenic designer for the Rude Mechanicals and co-founder and producer of The Edge Theatre Company. His recent off-Broadway work includes Terrorism, The God of Hell, and Thom Pain.
