Company History
Daktronics was founded in 1968 by Dr. Aelred Kurtenbach and Dr. Duane Sander, two professors of electrical engineering at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, USA. The original goal of the company was to offer an alternative to university graduates who were leaving the area for greater opportunities.
Since its debut in 1968, Daktronics has grown to more than 3,200 employees, consumes over 710,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space and has become an internationally recognized leader in the industry.
In 1997, Daktronics introduced the successful ProStar® large screen video display line, a full-color display system using red, green and blue light emitting diode (LED) technology. Daktronics built its first mobile ProStar® display in 1999, and currently offers a complete range of mobile truck- and trailer-mounted LED displays.
In 2004, the company launched a modular LED video display, the ProTour® system. After consulting with customers, Daktronics recently rolled out the finely tuned second generation ProTour®10mm modular display panel.
Daktronics has also added a new dimension to accent lighting, set design and architectural elements with its ProPixel® intelligent LED lighting technology.
Today tens of thousands of Daktronics display systems are at work in more than 70 countries, informing and entertaining millions each day.
Products and Services
Three years ago Daktronics established the Mobile and Modular Group, a distinct segment of the company that focuses on the rental and staging industry’s needs. The Mobile and Modular Group provides service to customers who purchase ProTour® modular display systems and mobile ProStar® LED systems as well as other mobile display solutions.
Daktronics ProTour® modular LED display systems feature indoor-outdoor surface mount display (SMD) technology for a brilliant image, a remote power system for ultra-light, low-noise panels and redundant diagnostic and panel-to-panel communication for reliability.
Daktronics also offers the complete mobile LED video solution with truck- and trailer-mounted ProStar® LED displays. ProStar® mobile systems are self-sufficient units ready for operation, including hoist and generator systems, fully equipped control rooms and customization options.
Daktronics ProPixel® LEDs are fully weatherproof, individually mounted pixels capable of wrapping a structure of any shape or size with color effects, animation or video. ProPixel®LED technology delivers a new, flexible medium to control illumination for a multitude of applications.
