Jon Kusner got into lighting back in high school in the suburbs of Chicago. His high school had a large theatre program that also supported small traveling shows and community events. Soon into his time in theatre, he decided that lighting was the most interesting discipline to follow. By 1998 he was working as a technician, then lighting director, and today he is one of the leading designers for live to broadcast productions including awards shows and special events. Kusner has won two Emmy Awards and been nominated numerous times, most recently for Outstanding Lighting Design for The Oscars in 2015 and 2016, as well as for The Grammy Awards in 2015.
