Kevin Adams, Paul Arditti Lead Tony Design Nominations

Lighting designer Kevin Adams and sound designer Paul Arditti are double nominees for this year's Tony Awards, announced today at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Adams received nods for his work on the musicals Hair and Next To Normal, while Arditti was nominated for Billy Elliot, The Musical and Mary Stuart.

Billy Elliot, which leads all shows with 15 nominations, also got nods for Ian MacNeil's sets, Rick Fisher's lighting, and Nicky Gillibrand's costumes. It will compete against Next to Normal, Rock of Ages, and Shrek the Musical for Best Musical.

Hair serves as the Broadway show for this year's Broadway Sound Master Classes, while Rock of Ages is this year's show for the Broadway Projection Master Classes. The sound design team for the former, Acme Sound Partners, was nominated for their work on the revival as well, and nominee Adams will also be speaking at the event. Other faculty with the Master Classes who received nominations include LDs Brian MacDevitt (Joe Turner's Come and Gone) and Howell Binkley (West Side Story) and sound designer Scott Lehrer (Joe Turner's Come and Gone).

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, June 7.
