The 2016 Grammy Awards were held February 15 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, featuring multiple performances, none of which received more of an enthusiastic reception than smash hit, hip-hop Broadway musical Hamilton. The cast performed the musical's opening number, "Alexander Hamilton," with their own set, designed by David Korins, at Richard Rodgers Theatre. When the incredibly multitalented Lin-Manuel Miranda—who wrote the production's book, music, and lyrics—appeared onstage as Hamilton, the cheers were deafening, so much so that his following line could not be heard over the roar despite his pause for the applause. Hamilton took home a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, which Miranda accepted in New York with a speech given in verse, naturally. Watch the entire performance via Vulture.
