CAMCO Amps Go Into Vegas Hairspray

Masque Sound has ordered a substantial quantity of amplifiers from German manufacturer CAMCO, in readiness for a new Vegas opening of Hairspray at the start of 2006.

Ashly Audio, CAMCO's distributor in the US, is supplying a total of 39 Vortex 6 high power amps which will be used with an L'Acoustics DV-DOSC system in a design by Steve Kennedy. Hairspray, a $12 million production, will open at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas in February 2006, starring Tony Award winner Harvey Feirstein.

Speaking on behalf of Masque Sound, Walter Yurgel commended the sound quality of the CAMCO amplifiers. "We own nearly two hundred of the Vortex amps now, and use them a lot," he says. "We find them to be very warm, and they match up really well with the DV-DOSC loudspeakers. In fact, CAMCO has become one of the staple amplifiers of our concert touring division, used by artists such as Jesse McCartney and Hilary Duff."

Vortex is a high power amplifier featuring exceptionally high efficiency, enormous power (6.000 watts mono into 4 ohms) and the use of micro-controllers to digitally control and monitor all functions and thus ensure first-class audio quality. A mere 2 units in height, it boasts a variety of innovative features: power transistor control with emergency shutdown in case of extreme malfunctions, reliable overvoltage protection up to 400V, thermal protective circuitry for the transistors, hum free operation in case of extreme undervoltage (instead of sound-deteriorating limiters).
