Angstrom Lighting Puts YouTHeatre America! in the Spotlight

Angstrom Lighting announced last week it provided the lighting equipment for a special concert performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood, CA on August 13 to benefit YouTHeatre America! The Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical is being directed by Gary Goddard of Gary Goddard Entertainment, with lighting design by Rick Belzer, founder of Big Apple Lights and Belzer Design International.

“This production invented the term ‘Rock Opera Lighting,’ because it requires 3 styles of lighting: Theatrical, Opera, and Rock and Roll,” says Belzer. “That’s what makes it challenging and fun, and that’s why I came to Angstrom Lighting; I know I can count on Frans and his team for this kind of expansive production.”

Belzer has enjoyed a colorful career and has especially enjoyed working with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice on some of their productions. His experience includes lighting designs for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Evita on Broadway, and the world tour of Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. Before founding his current businesses, Rick was executive producer and artistic director of Candlewood Playhouse for 10 years.

“It is always great to work with Rick; he is an amazingly versatile lighting designer,” says Frans Klinkenberg, president of Angstrom Lighting. “We are very happy to be part of this event benefiting a great organization for at-risk youth, and we consider it an excellent opportunity to help Rick make this production shine.”

The production stars Ted Neeley, Yvonne Elliman, Barry Dennen, Clint Holmes, Jack Black, and Ben Vereen. Proceeds will benefit YouTHeatre America and the Ricardo Montalban Foundation.
