Compulite Vector At Work On Three UK TV Studios

Stagetec Distribution have recently supplied Compulite Vector lighting control systems to three major UK TV companies. RTE in Dublin have purchased a Compulite Vector Blue system complete with iControl remote control and WYSIWYG. BBC Northern Ireland have purchased a Vector Green and Vector Blue system complete with iControl remote control, WYSIWYG, two Ethernet nodes and a Fader Wing. Granada Television in Manchester have purchased a Vector Green and Vector Blue system complete with iControl remote control and WYSIWYG.

BBC’s Vector systems were immediately put in to use on the BBC Proms in the Park, part of the Last Night of the Proms. There were outdoor concerts, all contributing to the main network show, including a live link between all the concerts. The event was held at the grounds of Belfast City Hall with performances from the Ulster Orchestra with conductor Kenneth Montgomery, the City of Derry Youth Choir and Codetta with percussionist Evelyn Glennie, soloists Denise Leigh and Jane Gilchrist and Cliona Doris on harp.

Philip Brines was the lighting director, with the Vector operator John Gallagher who comments, “The Proms this year was a very busy show, but we were very pleased with the results and how the Vector performed.”

Granada Television in Manchester purchased their system via their own resource company 3SixtyMedia from Compulite reseller Flashlight in Manchester. LD Neil Yates and Granada console operator Taras Kochan researched a wide range of consoles, and felt that the Vector beat out the competition in key areas such as ease of programming, flexibility of operation, interaction with CAD, and media software packages.

“We often have a very tight turnaround for our productions and it was essential that the console we opted for was fast to program and completely dependable,” says Kochan. “The Vector fulfilled all our requirements with ease after being used on three productions over the past eight months….The systems were put straight into use the day after they were delivered’

These purchases bring the total number of Vector systems in the UK to 27, with many used on major productions such as the upcoming TV shows, XFactor and Strictly Come Dancing.
