This summer, DePaul University, Northwestern University, and Columbia College are collaborating to present the Wigs and Hair Chicago (WHC) certificate program. WHC is structured to teach everything a designer needs to know to design, create and maintain any hair worn on stage.
The program will offer certification in both Wigs and Hair Production and Wigs and Hair Maintenance. Each course will meet for five consecutive days for six hours each day with a lunch break. Each day will introduce a different topic, a demonstration and a lab practical, in which students will have a hands-on opportunity to apply skills learned to their own hair pieces.
WHC will be taught by expert faculty: Nan Zabriskie, program director and teacher who has headed the makeup program at The Theatre School at DePaul University for 25 years, and Rick Jarvie, wig master and makeup director of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. WHC's courses will teach time-valued techniques, as well as some of the top industry secrets utilized by the top wig makers and makeup artists in the country.
Students in the Wigs and Hair Production Certificate Program will learn how to create and ventilate facial hair (mustaches, beards, eyebrows, chops, transformations), and wig fronts. The Wigs and Hair Maintenance Certificate Program covers many facial hair and wig design, setting, dressing, and maintenance issues.
