White Light Theatre Roundup

As spring turns into summer, London's West End is seeing a boom in the number of new productions, and many are turning to White Light to supply their lighting needs. The Rocky Horror Show was the first production ever supplied by the fledgling White Light back in 1971; the company has been involved with the show ever since, with White Light Group member The Moving Light Company supplying some of its first equipment to a tour of the show nine years ago. The current touring production will make a short appearance at the Queens Theatre, using Martin Professional MAC 2000s, MAC 600s, and MAC 500s in a lighting design by Michael Odam.

White Light's equipment is lluminating a range of Hollywood stars. Arriving at the Albery Theatre after a short UK tour is The Master Builder, starring Patrick Stewart in a production lit by Howard Harrison. Harrison is using the full range of ETC Source Fours plus PARs, 5kW fresnels, and four Vari*Lite® VL5s™, which are now available from The Moving Light Company. At the Comedy, Nigel Edwards is lighting Minnie Driver and Friends star Matthew Perry in David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago. White Light's equipment has also been lighting Kristin Scott Thomas in The Three Sisters at the Playhouse Theatre, in a design by Mark Henderson.

Hitchcock Blonde is transferring to the Lyric Theatre from the Royal Court complete with its acclaimed video-based design by William Dudley and lighting by Simon Corder, using a rig based around four Strand Pirouette PCs from The Moving Light Company. A White Light rig is once again occupying the Old Vic, this time lighting the RSC season of Coriolanus and The Merry Wives of Windsor, both lit by Hartley TA Kemp, who is using six Vari*Lite VL1000TS™ spotlights to help light two shows playing in rep. At the Shaftesbury, James Whiteside has lit the musical Calamity Jane.
