Sundance Film Festival to use DP Projectors for Digital Screenings

Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy Award-winning manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, is the Official Provider of digital projectors for all digital format screenings at the Sundance Film Festival (January 15 to 25, Park City, Utah) for the seventh consecutive year. For the first time in the festival's history, the opening night ceremonies' screenings in Park City and Salt Lake City will be in digital format.

At this year's Festival, every category will have digital entries, including high-definition premieres, documentaries, features and shorts.

More than 40-percent of the 223 scheduled screenings will be displayed in digital format by DPI, which represents the highest total in the Festival's history. DPI's projectors will also be employed as set elements for the festival's internationally televised Awards Ceremony.

"Each year Digital Projection's elegant technology delivers an extraordinary palette of balanced light, shadow and color to our cinema screens," said Ian Calderon, Director of Digital Initiatives for the Sundance Institute. "We are delighted that Digital Projection's expertise and world-class service stand at our side in support of independent films at the 2004 Film Festival."

DPI will provide its high-performance LIGHTNING, THUNDER and HIGHlite 3-chip DLP based projectors for use in sixteen theaters/venues, including the auditorium where the Awards ceremony will take place, the Park City Racquet Club.

"Digital Projection is honored to once again be responsible for displaying the works of the world's foremost independent film makers," said Chuck Collins, senior market development manager, Digital Projection, Inc. "We are especially proud to provide the technology that will display the opening night movies in both Salt Lake City and Park City."

The opening night ceremonies' movies are Riding Giants (co-written and directed by Stacy Peralta), which will be shown during the Park City ceremony, and Edge of America (directed by Chris Eyre), which will be shown during the Salt Lake City ceremony.
