Student Luminaire Design Awards Announced

Lightolier

and the Lighting Research Center have announced the winners of the 2002 Student Luminaire Design Competition. This year's competition challenged students to design an integrated product delivering both daylighting and electric lighting to an interior space. The competition generated more than 100 entries. The awards were presented at Lightolier's corporate headquarters on June 24.

"We were very impressed with the quality of student entries," said Zia Eftekhar, president of Lightolier. "This was a real-world challenge, as issue they will undoubtedly face when they leave school. This hands-on experience will be invaluable to them as they begin their careers."

The winners of the competition are:

  • $5000 first prize: Hillary Sanderlin, University of Bridgeport

  • $2000 second prize: Brian Fuller, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

  • $1000 third prize: Ramon Torres, Rhode Island School of Design

Honorable Mentions were awarded to the following students:

  • Hongyi Cai, University of Michigan

  • Betty Ng, Rhode Island School of Design

  • Feng Zhao, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

  • Susan Teal, University of Cincinnati
