Sponsors Announced for Design and Technical EDDY Awards

When the 2003 EDDY Awards are presented on Friday, June 27, at John Jay College Theatre, each of the awards honoring design and technical excellence will be sponsored by one of the corporate sponsors for the Entertainment Design Master Classes (BLMC/BSMC) and EDDY Awards. "This is a great opportunity for companies to celebrate the EDDY Awards, and help recognize the excellent work of six designers, one production electrician, and one theatre consultant," says Jacqueline Tien, publisher of Entertainment Design, sponsor of the EDDYs, and of Lighting Dimensions. "I'd like to personally offer my thanks to each of these companies for their support of the 2003 EDDY Awards."

The 2003 EDDY awards and their sponsors are:

This year’s set designer award, sponsored by Rose Brand, is being presented to John Lee Beatty. This award will be presented by director Walter Bobbie.

This year’s projection designer award, sponsored by Scharff Weisberg, is being presented to Elaine McCarthy. Set designer Lauren Helpern will present this award.

This year’s sound designer award, sponsored by Meyer Sound, is being presented to Dan Moses Schreier. This award will be presented by lighting designer Natasha Katz.

This year’s production electrician award, sponsored by Electronic Theatre Controls, is being presented to Mike LoBue. Lighting designer Howell Binkley will present this award.

This year’s design collaboration award, sponsored by Altman Lighting, is being presented to Mary Zimmerman’s design team--Mara Blumenfeld, T.J. Gerckens, and Daniel Ostling. This award will be presented by Second Stage artistic director Carole Rothman.

This year’s consultant award, is sponsored by Strand Lighting. This award celebrates the 45th anniversary of Theatre Projects Consultants. Set designer/director Tony Walton will present this award.

The EDDY Award winners are chosen by the editors of Entertainment Design magazine in conjunction with an industry advisory panel. The 2003 EDDY Awards are part of a weekend of professional training including the Broadway Lighting Master Classes, Broadway Sound Master Classes, and hands-on training offered in conjunction with ESTA.
