On Wednesday, March 20, at WCVB-TV in Needham, MA, the New England chapter of SMPTE will present a "Lighting Boot Camp," with an Equipment Bazaar at 6pm, and Basic Training at 7pm. Award-winning lighting director John Gates will run through the five basic lighting choices, with special emphasis on creating and controlling soft light.
John Gates is a lighting director with over 20 years of experience in lighting television, film, and special events. His work has appeared on virtually every domestic broadcast and cable network and several foreign networks. He has lit every US president since Nixon and worked in many formats, including HDTV & 3D. John is also the SMPTE New England Section chairperson and has taught lighting for film and video at Boston University since 1992.
