Video/Slideshow: 2024 Eurovision Song Contest Stage Design Highlights

Veteran Eurovision production designer Florian Wieder and international lighting and screens designer Fredrik Stormby form the creative team behind this year's Eurovision Song Contest, running May 7 to 11 in Malmö, Sweden.

The design puts the cross-shaped stage in the center of the Malmö Arena, creating equally accessible views for the in-house audience and the 160 million+ television viewers.

The production incorporates movable LED cubes, LED floors, and an extensive lighting rig, video screens, and scenic technology that creates bespoke performance areas for the delegates from each country.

The focal point of the design is a large-scale installation - a "centerpiece" of video and light above the stage, where the lighting is designed to embrace the artists and their performances. The elements are flexible enough to create many unique looks for the multiple bands performing, bringing live and TV audiences closer to the action.

Co-founded by Fredrik Stormby, Green Wall Designs is a leading creative studio renowned for crafting captivating visual experiences in live entertainment. Specializing in video, lighting, and scenic elements, the team has contributed to some of the most thrilling live productions in recent memory. Among Green Wall Designs' impressive portfolio within the past few years are projects such as Loreen's winning performance at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, ABBA Voyage, Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour, Amazon Music Live and The 1975 ‘At Their Very Best’, to name a few.

Following Loreen's victory at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, Sweden has the honor of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time in eleven years.

The decision to retain ‘UNITED BY MUSIC’ as the official Eurovision slogan and Sweden’s robust music scene inspired the lighting and video design embodying a strong, conceptually clean, modern expression. This design not only flirts with modern music and tour production but also draws inspiration from the vibrant urban region around Öresund and Malmö as a city. For the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, Green Wall Designs will strive to execute the event exclusively using LED and laser light sources to achieve lower constant power consumption. The lighting design for the 2024 contest encompasses approximately 2000 light fixtures and 12 follow-spot systems.

Fredrik Stormby, co-founder and CEO of Green Wall Designs says: “Green Wall Designs is honored to be working with SVT as the lighting and screen content designer for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. We are excited to deliver a spectacular show in our home country and for audiences across the world”.
