Selecon announces its first Lighting Master Class, to be held in London, England, March 21-23, 2003. Selecon is proud to have Rick Fisher and Chris Parry to head up this event. These two leaders of the lighting industry, working in different parts of the world, bring a wealth of experience.
The Master Class will be a hands-on lighting workshop held in a theatre environment. Selecon is looking for people working within the entertainment lighting industry who have experience in lighting or relighting shows, as a theatre electrician, technical assistant, or similar grade within the industry.
The three-day Master Class will employ the "Light Lab" system used by Chris Parry at the University of California, San Diego, where he is professor and head of the graduate lighting design program. This is a practical hands-on laboratory and will enable delegates to create lighting states set by Parry and Fisher, which will then be critiqued by them and the other delegates.

Discussions on contrasting US and UK lighting methodology

The perceived differences between UK and US lighting

Analyzing and discussing the emotional impact of lighting in performance

Individual and group discussions with Parry and Fisher and other LDs

"Whose light is it, anyway?" lighting improvisation classes
In announcing this initiative, Selecon's managing director Jeremy Collins comments, "The establishment of this Master Class epitomizes Selecon's commitment to and partnership with the best of theatre lighting practice around the world. Providing a unique opportunity for aspiring lighting designers to both extend their skills and to network, I hope it will become an annual event."
