ScreenWorks Upgrades To Daktronics Video Technology

Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq DAKT) of Brookings, SD, has retrofitted two ScreenWorks video mobile trailers with ProStar ® LED video technology. ScreenWorks, a division of NEP, specializes in mobile and modular LED daylight video screens

"Daktronics removed the old frames to accommodate the new ones and installed the video boards in a phenomenally short amount of time," says Sam Artinger, ScreenWork’s director of race operations and special projects.

Replacing the old displays with the Daktronics product is a definite upgrade in video technology. ProStar ® technology, HD-ready and available only from Daktronics, uses the latest in RGB LED technology to present live and recorded video images, colorful animation, and vivid graphics with brightness and wide-angle visibility. The new video display will be operated with Daktronics Venus® 7000 controller and V-Link® video processor.

Daktronics Mobile and Modular Video Group retrofitted a video display on two of ScreenWork’s existing video-screen mounted trailers–known as "Big-Mo’s." Big-Mo #9 is a Nextel NASCAR-branded truck painted yellow and black with the Nextel NASCAR logo, while Big-Mo #8 will serve as a supplemental trailer. Both trucks are the first ScreenWork’s units to be retrofitted with Daktronics products and will attend all NASCAR events.

ScreenWorks was familiar with Daktronics products due to the company’s presence in permanent stadium installations. "I’ve investigated the Daktronics product for years, but ScreenWorks didn’t choose them to retrofit their mobile units just because of the product. Unlike most manufacturers, they’re located inside the country, so Daktronics is in a position to offer better on-going support," Artinger says.

Once the video displays were retrofitted, Big-Mo #8 and #9 began to interlace America, bringing fans a crisp, vibrant, and close-up view of events. Big-Mo #8 was used in California for the San Diego Street Scene Festival in July. Big-Mo #9, the NASCAR-branded truck, debuted this August at the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. ScreenWorks plans to use the Big-Mo units at over 30 NASCAR races, as well as Indy Racing League (IRL) events, National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) events and the Harley Owners Meeting in Chattanooga, TN.

"Reviews from clients and fans about both video displays have been fantastic," Artinger states.

The Daktronics video displays run promotional pieces at the events for Nextel NASCAR and video feed of the actual race from 8am until the post-race activities are over. The technology delivers a bright, sharp image even in outside lighting conditions. Both of the new video displays feature 4.4 trillion color capabilities, 23mm (.90") center-to-center pixel spacing and a viewing area of approximately 18’ by 24’.
