Schuler & Shook Garner IALD Awards

Two of Schuler & Shook's recent lighting designs received honors at the 20th International Association of Lighting Designers awards held in New York recently. The IALD bestowed Awards of Merit on the Minneapolis Convention Center Auditorium designed by Lauri Tredinnick and First Presbyterian Church designed by Robert Shook, IALD, and Giulio Pedota, LC.

The Minneapolis Convention Center Auditorium project began as a new 3,400-seat theatre and became a flexible, scalable space, thus presenting new lighting challenges. Lauri Tredinnick's award-winning design met those challenges by utilizing downlight systems, wall sconces on moveable and stationary walls, and a well-programmed control system.

The First Presbyterian Church in Evanston, IL, commissioned Schuler & Shook to renovate the lighting in conjunction with the architectural renovation of the chancel. Robert Shook's Chicago-based team brought new life to existing fixtures as well as integrated a new lighting design to provide more effective, functional, and efficient lighting throughout the church. This successful design created a hierarchy of light, concentrating the most light on the chancel and the organ pipes. Other design elements included the refurbishment of chandeliers, better methods to shield glare, and the use of new, high-efficiency fixtures.

"We are pleased to have our work recognized by the IALD in this manner," says Robert Shook, president of Schuler & Shook Inc. "To have been selected from 160 entries is a real honor, and to see the other award-winning designs gives all of us inspiration."
