Scharff Weisberg Adds VL2500 to Inventory

Scharff Weisberg Lighting has made another significant addition to its inventory, which is designed to accommodate the ever-expanding needs of its customer base. By taking delivery of the highly-anticipated VARI*LITE® VL2500 Spot and Wash luminaires, Scharff Weisberg is the first lighting company on the East Coast to have the unit in its inventory. The VL2500 fixtures have already been employed in a number of projects including The Gotham Awards and the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting.

“We’re excited to have the new VL2500 luminaires available for our clients,” comments Scharff Weisberg Lighting’s Ben Saltzman. “The Series 2000 fixtures have always been very popular with designers. With the addition of color-mixing, this is a fixture worth getting excited about.”

The VARI*LITE VL2500 Spot luminaire is based on a very popular existing lighting tool–the VL2000 Spot luminaire–with additional new features that make it even more appealing. The VL2500 comes complete with all of the qualities and options designers love from the original Series 2000 fixtures: small size, light weight, fast 700W short arc lamp, impressive lumen output, and a zoom range from 18.5 to 42.

“One thing designers and programmers should really like about the VL2500 Spot and Wash luminaires is that they are already familiar with the fixtures,” said Vari-Lite product manager George Masek. “They have used the original Series 2000 fixtures for years, so they won’t have to learn to program and work with a ‘new’ light.”

The VL2500 Spot luminaire provides three-wheel CYM color mixing. When combined with 11 standard colors on a fixed wheel, the color options are practically limitless. A coated glass dimmer wheel provides smooth fades, and a separate dual-blade strobe system offers quiet and reliable strobe effects.

The fixture has one gobo wheel with five rotatable and indexable positions for image projection; a second gobo wheel has 11 fixed positions. The VL2500 Spot luminaire can be controlled from virtually any DMX512 console or DMX output device.

“We make lighting tools designers can use,” Masek added. “The VL2500 fixtures are valuable tools for any project. It combines small size and smooth, fast movement with features one would normally expect in a much larger and more expensive fixture. The new fixtures should be a popular addition to Scharff Weisberg’s inventory.”

Scharff Weisberg has already rented the lights for two high-profile events: The Gotham Awards at Pier 60 on Manhattan’s west side and the annual Christmas tree lighting in New York’s Rockefeller Center. John Ingram, Emmy Award winning lighting designer, used four units to uplight the Prometheus statue, the landmark below the tree at Rockefeller Center. “We loved the light,” Ingram reports, “It was more dependable than fixtures we had used in the past, and the color mixing was a great added feature.”

Added Vari-Lite Vice President of Sales Bob Schacherl, “It speaks volumes for the product when a top-tier and highly respected company such as Scharff Weisberg sees the value in making a substantial number of the VL2500 fixtures available to its customers.”
