Santo Loquasto Inducted Into Theatre Hall of Fame

On Monday, January 24, 2005, Tony Award-winning designer Santo Loquasto was among the luminaries of the Great White Way inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame. The annual ceremony was held at the Gershwin Theatre, and hosted by actress Marian Seldes.

Loquasto has designed extensively for theatre, film, dance and opera. His work in New York theater won him both Tony and Drama Desk awards for the set design of Café Crown and costume design for The Cherry Orchard and Grand Hotel. He received Tony nominations for set design for That Championship Season, What the Winesellers Buy, The Cherry Orchard, American Buffalo and The Suicide and costume design for Ragtime and Fosse. He has collaborated with Woody Allen on more than 20 films. His costume designs for Allen's Zelig, and production design for Radio Days and Bullets Over Broadway received Academy Award nominations. His other films include Big and Desperately Seeking Susan.

Loquasto has also collaborated with most major international ballet companies and enjoyed ongoing relationships with choreographers James Kudelka, Paul Taylor and Twyla Tharp. This season on Broadway he designed the scenery for Movin' Out and scenery and costumes for Long Day's Journey Into Night. Loquasto's countless list of credits includes Grand Hotel, Ragtime, Fosse, Tale of the Allergist's Wife, Cafe Crown, Bent, and That Championship Season. He won Tony Awards for both his set and costume design for Grand Hotel and for his costume design for the 1977 Broadway revival of The Cherry Orchard.
