Paul Huntley to Receive Special Tony Award

Wig and hair designer Paul Huntley will be honored with a special Tony Award at this year’s ceremony, to be held at Radio City Music Hall on June 8.

One of Broadway’s busiest designers, the London-born Huntley has worked on hundreds of projects since arriving on Broadway in 1973 to work on an all-star revival of Uncle Vanya with Julie Christie, Nicol Williamson, George C. Scott, and Lillian Gish. Since then, his projects have included Edward Albee’s Seascape (1975), Pacific Overtures (1976), The Kingfisher (starring Claudette Colbert, 1978), The Elephant Man (1979), Morning’s at Seven (1980), Amadeus (1980), Piaf (1981), The Dresser (1981), Cats (1982), On Your Toes (1983), You Can’t Take It With You (1983), My One and Only (1983), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1985), .Long Day’s Journey Into Night (1986), Me and My Girl (1986), Starlight Express (1987), Anything Goes (1987), The Heidi Chronicles (1989), Tru (1989), Crazy For You (1982), The Sisters Rosensweig (1993), An Inspector Calls (1994), Master Class (1995), Jekyll & Hyde (1997), The Scarlet Pimpernel (1997), The Diary of Anne Frank (1997), Kiss Me, Kate (1998), Contact (2000), Copenhagen (2000).

Shows currently running on Broadway designed by Huntley include Cabaret, The Producers, Mamma Mia!, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hairspray, Movin’ Out, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, and Enchanted April.. Huntley has also worked extensively in film.

Huntley was also recognized with an EDDY Award, from Entertainment Design, in 1995.
