Pace University Names New TD

Scott C. Parker has joined the faculty of Pace University in New York City as professor of technical theatre for The Dyson College of Arts and Sciences. Parker will also serve as the technical director for Dyson’s Performing Arts Department which is chaired by Christopher Thomas.

Parker has been a leader in technical theatre education for the New York City Department of Education for the past five years. His highly specialized program at the Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn has assisted students into acceptance at a diverse range of programs, including NYU, SUNY Purchase, NYC Tech, Ithaca, Syracuse, Columbia, SUNY New Paltz, and Amherst. Currently, Parker is working with the NYC DOE's office of Arts & Special Projects as a consultant for development of a new citywide theatre curriculum. Parker is also an advisor for the Dave Matthews Performing Arts Facilities Grant for the Fund for Public Schools.

As the founder of the High School Technical Production web site, www.hstech.org, Parker will continue his work with technical theatre at the high school level via outreach programs at Pace University. Parker is currently serving on the board of directors of two not-for-profit organizations: The Theater Garden, a group that performs for young audiences around the NY/Metro area; and the New York Area Section of USITT, serving as vice chair and head of the education committee. Parker will continue Pace's commitment to professional development by leading professional workshops for area theatre educators, designers, and technicians.

Parker has been a lighting/scenic designer, equity stage manager, and technical director in New York since 1981. His credits include Radio City Music Hall, the Lincoln Center Institute, Gene Frankle Theater, The Public Theatre, John Houseman Theater, American Place, and Town Hall. Parker has also worked as a TV news cameraman with work appearing on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, TNN, CNBC, overseas television, Good Morning America, 48 Hours, and Live with Regis Philbin.

Parker holds a Masters Degree in Theatrical Design & Technology from Brooklyn College and has completed additional studies at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, The Studio School of Stage Design (formerly the Lester Polokov Studio), The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and at Bennington College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree.
