Militello Light Show Opens in New York January 5

Anne Militello: Radiate (Not Fade Away)

, a new, site-specific exhibit by the noted LD, opens January 5, a presentation of Modern Culture at the Gershwin Hotel, in New York’s Madison Square District. The exhibition runs through February 2.

The show is composed of abstract and ever-changing light projections, designed to explore the mind’s relationship with luminosity. The works, are both large and intimate in scale, constitute the designer’s first art gallery exhibition.

Militello is well-known for her work in both performance and architecture. She is a recipient of an Obie Award for sustained excellence in lighting design for the Off Broadway theatre; she has been particularly associated with the works of Sam Shepard and Maria Irene Fornes. In addition, she has worked in concert touring, designing shows for Pearl Jam and Tom Waits. She is also a noted architectural LD, have recently been cited by the IESNA and IALD for lighting the exterior of the New 42nd Street Studios in New York City. Other significant projects include the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA; the Arts Council of New Orleans building in Louisiana; and the Tokyo Bazaar in Japan.

Modern Culture at the Gershwin Hotel is located at 3 East 27th Street, between Fifth and Madison Avenues, on the ground floor. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-6pm.
